A couple of days ago I got to think how is it that our generation's iconography is so vast, spontaneous and complicated. Nowadays, everything can be an icon (in this case, an image that depicts a subject, an idea, a feeling, a situation, a movement, namely, a simple unit symbol that represents something bigger than it contains).

To me it's just weird and mesmerizing how ANYTHING can be taken in and out of a context and become something different, how the internet sometimes gets so twisted that it becomes a place for the genesis of graphic symbols so ridiculously funny that they end up becoming icons that represent something bigger than what they actually are (i.e how Grumpy Cat became an icon to express the incompatibility between an individual and a specific situation within the social complexities of human behavior). Nowadays, memes have risen as the epitome of this generation's iconography and now basically ANYTHING can become a meme that represents something bigger when it's taken out of its context, to me, all of this is a product of idolization.

See... I've always been a fanboy. A person that's so intensely characterized by his favorite things from pop culture to the point of taking the biggest amount of visual or textual references to an external level, which in this case are my clothes. Now... if you come to think about it, this is also a product of idolization. Idolization, as I see it and I can put it out in words in the easiest way, is a token, easily gifted away to any element that we adopt from the entertainment industry so that it becomes a direct vehicle to the easy understanding of our personality.

That was basically the inspiration behind the edits of this photos, I took a hell lot of visual references from the internet (mostly Tumblr) and I mixed them with my favorite visual references from my favorite shows, movies or music and fixed them together so they will look extremely ridiculous, all in all, this is a big idol stew.

Hace algunos días comencé a pensar acerca de cómo es que la iconografía de esta generación es tan vasta, espontánea y complicada. Hoy en día, cualquier cosa puede convertirse en un ícono (en este caso, una imagen que represente un sujeto, una idea, un sentimiento, una situación, un movimiento, es decir, un símbolo sencillo que represente algo mucho más grande de lo que en él está contenido).

Para mí es tanto maravilloso como extraño captar cómo cualquier cosa puede ser sacada e incluida en algún contexto para significar algo completamente distinto, cómo el internet a veces es un lugar tan retorcido que da pie al génesis de símbolos gráficos tan absurdamente cómicos que suelen convertirse en un ícono más grande de lo que realmente representan (por ejemplo, cómo Grumpy Cat se reformó como un ícono de la incompatibilidad entre una persona y alguna situación específica en el escenario sociocultural en el que vivimos) Actualmente, los memes son los epítomes de la iconografía actual y básicamente TODO puede ser transformado en un meme que represente algo mayor cuando se saca de su contexto habitual. Desde mi perspectiva, todo esto viene dado por la idolatría.

Verás... desde muy pequeño siempre he sido un fanboy. Una persona regiamente caracterizada por las cosas que más le gustan de la cultura pop al grado de tomar el mayor número de referencias visuales o textuales a un nivel externo, en este caso, en la ropa que utilizo y, sin pensarlo mucho, esto también viene dado por la idolatría. La idolatría, como lo veo actualmente, es una moneda que se regala fácilmente a cualquier elemento que adoptamos por entretenimiento o escape, convirtiéndose en un vehículo directo a nuestra personalidad de manera sencilla y sin muchas explicaciones.

Básicamente esta fue la inspiración que tomé a la hora de editar las fotos para este post; tomé la mayor cantidad de referencias visuales que se encuentran fácilmente en internet (y mayormente en Tumblr) y las mezclé todas para que lucieran extremadamente ridículas.
